"The Loner" Assignment

What is my impression of "the Loner"?

"The Loner" is an anti-social boy. He finds it hard to mix with the children around him. As he "leans against the playground wall", he is wary of the children playing in front of him. He longs to play with them but "back against the wall he stays" as he is unsure of how to approach them. Thus, he finds comfort and security with the playground wall. The wall is his only "friend" and he is very dependent on it. Also, "his loneness is his shell and shield" shows that he uses his loneless as a form of protecting himself from the other children.

What is your impression of the other children?

The other children are very comfortable within their own social circles. They are each in their own "familiar clique". They do not understand "the Loner"."Nor we will yield" and do not want to provoke or approach him. They are fulfilled and happy, within themselves and does not want to trouble themselves with "the Loner". They find him to be a weird person who would rather enjoy the company of the playground wall than the company of real friends.
